Become a Diamond after you die in 4 easy steps.
61How to live forever!
Did you know that you can become a diamond after you die! You could then choose to become a diamond ring, a diamond pendant, diamond earings, a diamond bracelet.
Its up to you. You can become a diamond.
Life Gem
The American based company, Life Gem have a patented technology that transforms the carbon from your cremated body, so you can become a diamond when you die. They create a certified high-quality diamond that is molecularly identical to natural diamonds. The process of creating diamonds from body carbon was first developed by General Electric in the mid 1950's.
Life Gem also have representatives in other countries.
Step 1
The first step in creating a diamond is to capture carbon from your bodily remains after cremation. They can now also do this from a lock of hair if you want to be buried, they say they need about the same amount as an average man's haircut.
It is then treated in a special high-nitrogen, low oxygen environment.
I have a bit of a problem with this information, if they can do this from a lock of hair, why can't I just send off my hair while I'm alive every time I go to the hairdresser? - there must be a cost factor that restricts this to being impractical!
Diamonds that you don't have to die for
Step 2
The second step in diamond creation is purification. During this stage, the carbon is heated and any left-over ash is extracted. During heating, the carbon turns to graphite that contains unique identification features. The carbon is then placed in a crucible which has all the owner's details engraved on the outside to ensure there are not mix-ups or identification problems.
These crucibles are very special because they must be able to withstand the heating process during which temperatures reach 3000 degrees centigrade - now that's hot!
Step 3
The third step in diamond creation is to place the graphite into a diamond press which replicates the heat and pressure forces that are present deep within the earth. The longer the graphite remains in the diamond press, the larger will be the rough diamond crystal.
The growth chamber causes the purified carbon to break down into individualised atoms and crystallize into a rough diamond. While it is in the growth chamber, it cannot be monitored physically, but it can be monitored by computers.
Step 4
Finally, the rough diamond is removed from the growth chamber is is ready to be cut. During the cutting process, it is certified and given a certificate of authenticity. As mentioned earlier, this diamond is molecularly identical to natural diamonds, and is an authentic diamond.
What I will do
For me, becoming a diamond is exactly what I want. I cannot even contemplate burial and becoming a rotting corpse that lies in the ground for ever and ever. Alternatively, cremation leaves me as a pile of ash which is ultimately nothing for ever and ever.
I think that by creating a diamond, I will leave behind an heirloom that can be passed down through my family for generations to come.
To this end, I will also leave some money for my daughter to have the diamond, and have it set into a ring of her choosing that she will then pass to my grand daughter, and whomever comes after her. I will live long in their memories.
What would you do?
Would you create a diamond from your body carbon?

I had heard something about this, but you have really explained it so well. This is an awesome hub! I don't know what to think about this. What if your progeny ended up fighting over you? (No! I get to have auntie! No, I do, she loved me more!) Or what if they dropped you in the toilet or lost you? OMG, I just flushed Gramma down the toilet! :) My goodness!
gramarye this could be the basis of a great yarn. There is an interesting verse in the Bible in Mal 3:17 "And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels" could it be?.......=:) The concept is an interesting one. Thanks for sharing it.
I've heard of this but never knew how it worked...I don't know about me myself being a diamond but I don't want to rot in the ground either.
No way I would do this. Hey go for it. I would hope my daughters would have a piece of me in their hearts. There is enough stuff around here they will inherit if they want money they can sell it for a diamond and have all my rings. Sorry but lets market rings out of dead bodies. Greed. Just my opinion.
You can throw rocks. The neat thing about writing is they will not hurt me. Kidding. Words can be tough. Donate anything worth having on me. But spare me, a diamond? Make me a diamond? I am a diamond in the rough. This is amusing if not pathetic. Sorry whoever created this idea is gotta be out for the bucks. Get your millions by making dead people into diamonds for their family. It is like stuffing your dog after it dies. Let it go. We will be together in heaven. I know I will be there. My daughters and beloved will be there one day and there are plenty of diamonds. I take nothing, nada with me when I go.
Thank you for visiting my hubs. I am grateful you joined my ranks. Hugs granmarye. No hard feelings I like your style of writing. This is a funny story. I am laughing. Best wishes at hub pages. I will return.
Wow! Very interesting and informative! I couldn't have learned that from college if I have gone to one, LOL. Thanks for sharing:)
I knew they could make diamonds out of peanut protein, so why not hair? It is an interesting concept, but I can't say it would make any difference to me once I am dead. Now while I am living, I like the idea. It reminds me of a book I read once where the husband and wife to be had rings fashioned from their hair, twined with gold and such. After that, I always thought it would be neat to incorporate hair into the ring design.
Never heard of it, but its interesting. Not sure I would go for it though. I believe our remains, whether ashes or otherwise will bring new life to earth in a natural way. Such as in aiding the growth of a field of flowers. ;) I wouldn't want to wear someones remains on my finger or have mine on theirs, I guess. Maybe it just takes some thought to get use to?
This is the strangest thing I have ever heard of. What percentage of the final product comes from the supplied material (deceased body part)?
I did have an aunt who wanted her ashes to be put into clay and made into coffee cups.
How much does this cost? I think it's a great idea!
DNA2Diamonds creates memorial diamonds and they're less expensive. Plus, they have some beautiful settings. http://www.dna2diamonds.com
Wow, that is very interesting...
$25,000.00 is a bit to rich for my blood. But an interesting concept nonetheless.
it is attractive to know that in after death, one can be transformed into a precious lustre called Diamond.
gramarye, I have never heard of this process so thanks for the Hub.
It puts a whole new concept of being called a 'rough diamond'
Thumbs up for my learning something new every day :-)
G, as a geologist I really like the idea but as a gformer dead person, I am glad I didn't agree to this or maybe my wife would have made me into a necklace by now!!!! Another great post.
This will be my dying wish.
This is the first time I read about becoming a diamond. Nice idea to stay forever. Great hub.
Fascinating. I really think I'll investigate!
I saw your title and knew I had to read! I'm glad I did. This is new to me. I certainly plan to be cremated, and I like the idea of becoming a diamond (if I could afford it). When you have the time, check out my Hub My Living Will. It instructs my kids what to do with me afterwards. I will vote this UP, etc.

You know I like this. And I would not mind being a diamond. I had no idea that General Electric could have thought of something so brilliant.
Thanks for such an interesting - one of a kind hub. Wow!
